I discover two identical books about the band The Pixies in the pockets of a rain coat that DL kindly donated to me recently. The coat appears brand new and belonged to DL’s brother, who has passed away. It is far too large for me – the hood is quite useless under inclement weather as the slightest breeze whips it from my head. However, I decide to wear it when I travel on the metro as I am sure to find a couple of people with an interest in The Pixies.

It has been reported in the music press that the Sex Pistols and The Kinks have been uncovered to be the very same people! This is astonishing news to me. But, now that I study the accompanying photographs (dated 1971 and 1977), I begin to see a previously unnoticed similarity between R. Davies and J. Lydon. Who’d have thought!

Decades ago, I played in a band whose keyboard player was Steven Appleby. He was (and still is) a talented artist/cartoonist. He wound up drawing the illustrations for ‘The Good Inn’, a book written by Francis Black aka Black Francis of The Pixies.
