Side 2 of Beggar’s Banquet.

the very last words that she heard

were, “hey, man! they’ve just landed!”

it was late one night in ‘69

we laid her out on a big blue blanket.

we carried her down

to the beach

through the town,

there was a storm brewing on the atlantic.

the needle dropped down

and i heard the sound

of side one of beggar’s banquet.

the congregation knelt down

and sam took a bow.

he read some lines by the great romantic.

the sand flew around

the seagulls frowned

he had a smile that would thrill any dentist.

they found footprints on the moon –

and no one could quite explain it.

(she left no breath on the spoon

and no one could quite explain it)

… then the needle dropped

and i heard the sound

of side two of beggar’s banquet.
