white tee shirt and scruffy jeans.

Scuffed-up monkey boots

don’t mean I can’t pop my collar.

Unbox socks of cotton.

No, I ain’t forgotten how

to tie my laces, I was shown.

Yeah, my hair needs cutting.

Wash my face this morning.

Pay the rent tomorrow.

Splash my favourite cologne

as if it cost top dollar.

Ride the train to Central.

Greet you at our coffee shop.

Carry your bags for you.

The bed is made, the cupboard stocked.

The rooms are clean and scented.

You don’t care much for such things.

But I will play guitar and sing
